It seems that as of late, 3-D has been a cinematic trend. However, 3-D can be traced back to the early 1900′s and has been around for almost as long as movies have. Film technology regarding 3-D formatics, was called stereoscopic, where films were shown on two separate screens and movie-goers had to wear glasses to view images.
