Last night on Blues Breakers we celebrated the 99th anniversary of the birth of John Lee Hooker with The Hook as our Artist Of The Week.
John Lee Hooker was born 99 years ago today in Tutwiler, Mississippi. When he left the South during the Great Migration John Lee landed in Detroit where he worked for the Ford Motor Company, but he recorded many of her best early records on S. Michigan Avenue in Chicago for Vee-Jay Records.
It was a big night for Chicago blues on Blues Breakers last night as our Artist of the Week was a Chicago blues legend and we played very new blues from three Chicago artists.
Tonight on Blues Breakers we honor Chicago blues legend Luther Allison. Luther was born in August on the 17th in 1939 and died in August on the 12th in 1997. And we’ll hear from locals Lurrie Bell, Joanna Connor and Matthew Skoller from very new records.
Last night our Artist of the Week was the “Human Jukebox,” Magic Slim. We played a few from Slim plus recent blues from Chicago artists who have gigs in town this week, a brand new song from a forthcoming release by Bobby Rush, and more!
