His first personal contact with ‘XRT was when he met John Platt. He invited Tom to visit him while on the air at WGLD, a one-time progressive rock station based in Oak Park. This Monday Blues Breakers will be all about Billy Branch. Billy is celebrating the 40th Anniversary of his band the Sons Of Blues with an all star blowout on the main stage of the Chicago Blues Festival on opening night, June 9.
Last fall the Rolling Stones released an album of Chicago Blues. This spring the favor is returned with, “Chicago Plays The Stones.” Tonight on Blues Breakers we’ll spin the Buddy Guy recording where he is joined by second vocalist and harmonica player Mick Jagger.
The true king of the blues. B.B. was the best. There are over fifty years of B.B. King songs to choose from. We’ll just have to pick a few and then remember to feature him more often so that we can play more. Plus, we’ll give a couple of birthday spin-outs to Little Walter and play the best new releases from Chicago and beyond
It’s our annual Blues Fest kickoff party at Buddy Guy’s Legends on Thursday evening, June 8, 2017. Once again we feature the top acts of the red hot Chicago Blues scene in a celebration of the beginning of the City of Chicago’s biggest festival.
Tonight on Blues Breakers our Artist of the Week will be Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown. We will also be making the announcement tonight regarding the annual WXRT Blues Breakers Blues Fest Broadcast from Buddy Guy’s Legends.
On Monday, April 10, Lonnie Brooks was buried in Lincoln Cemetery in Chicago. Lonnie passed away after a long illness on April 1st. He arrived at his grave site in a horse drawn carriage led by a marching band.
Over the weekend we lost a top Chicago Blues star, a kind and generous gentleman and a wonderful family man and father: Lonnie Brooks. Tonight on Blues Breakers we’ll be playing an hour of Lonnie Brooks music from 9p-10p on 93XRT in Chicago.
