It’s our annual Blues Fest kickoff party at Buddy Guy’s Legends on Thursday evening, June 8, 2017. Once again we feature the top acts of the red hot Chicago Blues scene in a celebration of the beginning of the City of Chicago’s biggest festival.
Tonight on Blues Breakers our Artist of the Week will be Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown. We will also be making the announcement tonight regarding the annual WXRT Blues Breakers Blues Fest Broadcast from Buddy Guy’s Legends.
On Monday, April 10, Lonnie Brooks was buried in Lincoln Cemetery in Chicago. Lonnie passed away after a long illness on April 1st. He arrived at his grave site in a horse drawn carriage led by a marching band.
Over the weekend we lost a top Chicago Blues star, a kind and generous gentleman and a wonderful family man and father: Lonnie Brooks. Tonight on Blues Breakers we’ll be playing an hour of Lonnie Brooks music from 9p-10p on 93XRT in Chicago.
One of the biggest stars of the Chicago Blues has passed away. The Baker (Brooks) family announced today that the patriarch passed away at the age of 83.

We began with Ronnie Baker Brooks (pictured) from his first new record in 10 years. We featured Rufus Thomas in honor of his date of birth. We revealed some of the stars of the upcoming Chicago Blues Festival. And we had an hour long good time.

It was another tough week in music as one of the Blues greats of the golden era of Chicago Blues, James Cotton, passed away. Tonight on Blues Breakers we’ll hear James from his own records, with Muddy Waters and more as he will be our Artist of the Week.
