Two Minute Drill: Close, but No Cheese [Listen]

It was decidedly not a balmy one yesterday as the Bears & Packers squared off for one of the coldest games ever at Soldier Field. The Bears managed to keep it as close as people huddled together for warmth in the stands for the first half. Then, things got ugly. The Packers took over in the third quarter, rattling off 17 unanswered points. The fourth quarter though, belonged to the Bears as they managed to scrape and claw their way back to tie the game with about a minute left in regulation.

The Bears have long ago been eliminated from playoff contention, but still decided to play for overtime by kicking the chip shot field goal rather than go for the touchdown within the Green Bay five yard line. On the ensuing drive, the Bears inexplicably declined the ten second runoff following a Green Bay player injury with no timeouts, allowing ample time for Aaron Rodgers to find Jordy Nelson on a 60+ yard bomb and hobble down the field to spike the football, allowing the winning field goal as time expired. No matter, as this particular loss will turn into something of a victory come draft day in April. Cold comfort for the freezing masses that afternoon on the lake.

Chicago Bears defensive lineman / fullback Mitch Unrein joins the XRT Morning Show the morning after every Bears game at 9:15am for the Two Minute Drill.
