CHICAGO (CBS) — Within hours of a deadly attack in Berlin, Chicago police descended upon the German Christmas market at Daley Plaza.
Large police trucks were parked at the corners of the market and several officers on bicycles were patrolling the area.
Officials with the Chicago Police Department were not immediately available to comment.
At least nine people were killed and dozens injured when a truck plowed through a crowd at a popular Christmas market in Berlin late Monday, police said.
Polizei Berlin said that a suspect had been arrested near the scene, CBS News reports. A passenger in the truck died at the scene, although it’s not clear how or when that happened yet.
While no official motive has been given in the attack, CBS News correspondent Charlie D’Agata reports witnesses saying that there was no doubt it was a deliberate attack based on the way it jumped the curb.
