It was pleasure to speak with a couple of musicians I’ve long admired on last night’s Local Anesthetic. I’ve known Casey McDonough since the late-90’s when he was playing gigs for me up at the old CJ Artur’s in Wilmette. He’s since gone on to be a utility player in a LOT of damn good bands including currently holding down the bass slot in NRBQ. Alex Hall first came to my attention as the drummer in the always knockout Modern Sounds (with Joel Paterson and Beau Sample) but he was also part of JD McPherson’s “Chicago” band (along with Jimmy Sutton). Alex is also a recording engineer of growing (and glowing) reputation including The Flat Five‘s debut It’s a World of Love and Hope. It’s the latter’s release that put me in pester mode to get these two busy guys to swing by XRT for a chat. Along with their bandmates Scott Ligon, Kelly Hogan and Nora O’Conner, Alex and Casey have put out one of the finest records of the year. Hear more from them and plenty of their tunes at the link below. Thank you for listening.
