Len & Lin: We Are Living In Historic Times [Listen]

My, how times have changed. What was once a futile pipe dream is becoming a reality on the north side of town. The slumps of Anthony Rizzo and Addison Russell seem to be more of a distant memory than any notion of curses. Things that were once referred to as Cubbie Occurrences are now beginning to happen to other teams. Witness Andrew Toles losing a fly ball and allowing two Cubs to advance into scoring position. Witness Cleveland starting pitcher Trevor Bauer slicing open his finger on a drone. Witness the Indians’ second baseman Jason Kipnis spraining his ankle during the ALCS championship celebration. Like the slow and deliberate wheels of time, things are finally turning for the Cubs. Kyle Hendricks has experienced a renaissance not seen since… last year’s edition of Jake Arrieta. This of course ignores just how good Arrieta has been this year and contrasts it against his world-beating Cy Young numbers of 2015. And in 2015, if you were to posit a duel between Kyle Hendricks and Clayton Kershaw, no honest person would choose the Dartmouth econ major. But as in all things 2016 Cubs, there is little reason to fear the past. These Cubs are different. And for the first time in 71 years, things truly are different. The Cubs have won the National League pennant. Beelzebub ought to find a jacket, for winter is coming.

Len Kasper joins Lin Brehmer on the XRT Morning Show at 8:30am Mondays & Fridays to talk about your NATIONAL LEAGUE CHAMPION Chicago Cubs as they say hello to Cleveland in the World Series. Len & Lin: never letting the pressure exceed the pleasure, on 93XRT.
