Diary of an Overnight DJ: The October Lovers’ Club

Fall is here! Man oh man. Like the white girl I am, I love the Fall.

But crazy things are happening right now, the world is in an anxious state.

The Cubs have a shot. Donald Trump has a shot. It all makes me crave a shot of whiskey.

The only normal thing going on right now is the leaves changing color from crisp kelly green to a gorgeous medley of reds, oranges, and yellows. The cooler air hits our skin in a sharp but refreshing way, and the scent of bonfires reminds me of Friday night football games in High School. With the milder temperatures the oven regains its title as a source of comfort, emitting a welcome warmth and aroma, after being neglected on the hottest days of the summer. I spend the little free time that I have baking pumpkin bread, banana bread, and zucchini bread. If there were such a thing as Autumn bread I would bake it. I no longer have to dilute my coffee with ice, and I get to resume the meditative practice of making tea. The days get shorter and offer photo-worthy sunsets. And don’t even get me started on the way your skin stays cool but your insides get warm when you go for a run in this perfect running weather…

How about a few songs to further demonstrate my passion for this fine season:

“We Are Going To Be Friends” – The White Stripes

“September” – Earth Wind and Fire

“Maggie May” – Rod Stewart

I almost forgot: sweaters.

Getting back to reality, a couple of great shows have just been announced!

-The Lumineers, Andrew Bird, and Margaret Glaspy at the Allstate Arena on Friday, January 20th

-Tedeschi Trucks Band at the Chicago Theatre January 19th, 20th, and 21st

-Andrew Bird’s Annual Gezelligheid Performances at the Fourth Presbyterian Church December 14th, 15th, and 16th

You can enter every day to win tickets to XRT Shows like these on our contest page.

This weekend, Mary and Lin will be broadcasting live from Wrigley Field! Tune in Saturday from 10 am – 2 pm. I’ll be listening when I get tired of jumping in piles of leaves.

And if you happen to be an early bird on weekends, catch my new show Deep Digs at Dawn Saturday Mornings from 6:30 – 8 am. I dig deep into the XRT Music Library and play covers, live recordings, and lesser heard songs from your favorite XRT Artists.

Enjoy this gorgeous Fall weekend!
