To stay on top of the many cool new bands today, one cannot do it alone. You need a street team.
My Street Team MVP is Jimmy Langford. I know Jimmy through his dad, Jon Langford. (Waco Brothers, Mekons, Skull Orchard, former co-host of XRT’s Eclectic Company) Yeah, that Jon Langford.
Whenever I see Jimmy, he tells me about a new band I need to know. His track record is really good.
He told me about Twin Peaks and Whitney months before either band released their debut records.
A few weeks ago, he tipped me about Lemon Twigs, a teenage brother team from Long Island. Jimmy caught their first show in Chicago at The Hideout and he said they were going to cause a sensation. Once again Jimmy may be right.
Earlier this week Lemon Twigs made their network TV debut on The Tonight Show. Evidently Questlove had a lot to do with getting them on the show saying, “If you take The Beach Boys’ Pet Sounds, Sgt. Peppers by The Beatles and maybe The Odyssey and Oracle by The Zombies and filter it through a bunch of 15-year old kids, that’s what this is.”
Lemon Twigs full length, “Do Hollywood” produced by Jonathan Rado of Foxygen, who also produced Whitney’s debut is out soon. The band plays at Lincoln Hall October 21st.
Watch their Tonight Show performance of “These Words” and see for yourself. I’ll thank Jimmy Langford for you.
