Len & Lin: Bittersweet Day for Baseball [Listen]

As the Major League Baseball regular season begins to wind down, a lot of endings are forthcoming. But one was completely unexpected: the tragic death of Marlins star pitcher Jose Fernandez in a boating accident. Other conclusions were telegraphed well in advance, including the retirement of living legend Vin Scully in L.A. and grandpa Rossy’s final regular season home game at Wrigley. He received a whopping five standing ovations, including just before knocking a no-doubter out of the ballpark. In an unorthodox move only possible in baseball, manager Joe Maddon strode out to the mound in the seventh inning not to remove starting pitcher Jon Lester, but to take David Ross out to one final ovation from the friendly confines. What an emotional day across sports, including the passing of golfing pioneer Arnold Palmer. Yesterday was really an example of the highs and lows that sports can bring into our lives.

Len Kasper joins Lin Brehmer on the XRT Morning Show at 8:30am Mondays & Fridays to talk about your NL Central champion Chicago Cubs. Len & Lin: never letting the pressure exceed the pleasure, on 93XRT.
