ONXRT LIVE FROM THE ARCHIVES: Pick Up Your Copy Of Volume 18 NOW! Full Details

Diary of an Overnight DJ: Interviewing Wayne Coyne, Deep Digs at Dawn, Goose Island Block Party and your last chance for #XRTeal

It’s been a busy week here at XRT. Where to begin?

Last week I had the honor of interviewing Wayne Coyne of the Flaming Lips. We ended up doing the interview in the bathroom at his hotel because it had the best lighting and sound. The goofy setting broke the ice and made way for a really fun interview. Check it out here:

We also played a game called “This or That,” in which Wayne must pick between two seemingly simple ideas, that actually end up saying a lot about a person. Watch the two minute video here:

Isn’t he sweet?

In programming news, I have a new show on Saturday mornings called Deep Digs at Dawn. From 6:30 – 8:00, join me for unique covers, picks from the ONXRT Live from the Archives Collection, and songs from your favorite XRT artists that you might not hear so often. It’s been a lot of fun so far. I post the playlists every Saturday morning at 8:00, in case you miss anything. Hope you like it!

Speaking of Saturday mornings, I’ve been hosting that shift for about 2 years now. I picked it up from Leslie Witt, who held down Saturday mornings at XRT for a very long time. As many of you know, Leslie passed away this Summer after a long battle with Ovarian Cancer. In honor of Leslie, we are supporting the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund Alliance in their “30 Days of Teal” campaign, and selling teal, throwback XRT T-shirts. All proceeds from the shirts go to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund Alliance. You can purchase yours here, and make sure to Tweet or Facebook @93xrt or @emmamacDJ with #XRTeal so we can credit you for being awesome!

Got plans for this weekend yet? Join us this Friday and Saturday for the Goose Island 312 Urban Block Party. The line-up, curated by our very own Richard Milne, is incredible this year, with bands like Whitney, Jr. Jr., White Denim, and Dawes. Not to mention there will be tons of great beer, and it’s only a $10 Donation to get in, which goes to a charity of your choosing: Chicago Canine Rescue, Chicago Parks Foundation, Greater Chicago Food Depository, Foundations Of Music, or the Chicago Blackhawks Charities. On top of that, beers are only $3!

Sounds like the fun will be brewing…
