Rage Against the Machine fans have waited more than a decade to hear solo material by frontman Zack de la Rocha.
While de la Rocha has released a couple of things over the years (a 2004 song “We Want it All” from the Songs and Artists That Inspired Fahrenheit 9/11 album and a 2008 EP with his short-lived project One Day as a Lion), his releases have been few and far between. But now, the Rage frontman released a new single “Digging for Windows” featuring rapper El-P. de la Rocha and El-P have worked together before: Zack added vocals to “Close Your Eyes (And Count To F—)” from El-P’s group Run The Jewels’ 2014 album 2.
The new track finds de la Rocha with a bleak outlook on the forthcoming elections.
“I stare at a future so toxic, no trust in the dust of a promise, won’t mark the name on a ballot, so they can be free to devour our options, and just like you I’m a target.”
De la Rocha was noticeably absent from the lineup for Prophets of Rage, a supergroup formed with members of Rage Against the Machine, Cyprus Hill and Public Enemy earlier this year. As it turns out, his bandmates’ insistence that their frontman was working on a record appear to be true.
