Die Einführung der Beatles! (Introducing The Beatles!)

August 17, 1960 – The Beatles give their 1st public performance at the Indra Club in Hamburg, Germany (ironically, August 17, 1960 also fell on a Wednesday.)  Pete Best is playing drums and Stuart Sutcliffe is playing bass and the rock and roll world is never the same.  Try as I may, I couldn’t track down a set list for the 5 lads so I put together my own (taking massive liberties with zero regard for time, space, or historical accuracy) sort of dream set list.  A few interesting things I did manage to find out about the Beatles’ first gig:  the band 1) slept in a storeroom next to the bathrooms for the duration of the 40+ show residency at Indra Club, 2) were paid the equivalent of $70 a week for a dozen performances each Thursday through Sunday, and 3) played most of the shows to an interesting (let’s call ’em unsavory) crowd whose reception was a far cry from the reception they’d receive a couple’a years later in America.

What would you have wanted to see the pre-Fab Four Beatles play? Drop me a line on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter – my handle on all of ’em is RyanArnoldRocks – and let me know.

Your pal,
Ryan A.
