5 Of The Best Performances From The Double Door [Watch]

With Double Door recently being in the news for the dispute over their lease, it made sense to go back and dig up some of the best performances over the last 22 years there. On Monday, the latest report is that Double Door can stay at their location through the end of the year. In addition to countless up and coming bands, Double Door has had legends of the art form take their stage through the years.

The Rolling Stones
9-18-1997

Yes, you read that right, back in 1997 The ‘Stones played a secret show at Double Door. Luckily, there’s a lot of footage from that show online and it’s pretty decent quality considering the year. Take a look into “Start Me Up”.

Bonus – “Honkey Tonk Women”

The Smashing Pumpkins
2-28-1995

Of course Billy and company have played Double Door before. Will they ever return? I’m not sure considering the news that broke this week that Billy is the new president of TNA wresting. Yes, really.

Of Monsters and Men
8-5-2012

Icelandic band Of Monsters and Men played a show Lolla weekend in 2012 on the heels of their massive well-received debut, My Head Is An Animal. Enjoy an up close and personal video of “Little Talks” being performed.

Local H dressed as Nirvana
10-31-1997

Chicago band Local H better have won a Halloween contest for this effort as Nirvana. It’s one thing to dress up, but to go on stage and perform in the costume, A+…take a look below.

TV on the Radio
8-7-2009

One of my favorite bands of all time, TV on the Radio played a 2009 Lolla aftershow at Double Door that was in support of their terrific album, Dear Science. Fun/pathetic fact: I skipped their Lollapalooza set that year in favor of eating dinner at Bennigan’s on Michigan Ave. You can’t script a worse way to Lolla than doing that. Here’s footage of “Wolf Like Me” live from that night.

If Double Door is forced to move, it’s unclear yet if they’ll relocate. Keep an eye on the latest developments over the next few months, and in the mean time try to catch a show there.
