I only point out that fact because it’s unusual for an Anesthetic show to be comprised of mostly female fronted bands. That and the fact that it gave me an excuse to put a different headline on this week’s post (as long as that headline turned out to be as a result). First, the not new Chicago music will come from a reissue of Kate Fagan‘s still-very-listenable single from 1980(?) called “I Don’t Want To Be Too Cool”, a nice snapshot of Chicago venues and vices of the era. Jamila Woods was first heard on Anesthetic two years back as half of M&O. More recently, her vocals graced “Sunday Candy” (and other tracks) from Donnie Trumpet‘s debut of last year. This Sunday night, check out a track from her very fine HEAVN (sic) release. I’ve been keeping The Luxury Fever on hold for months. Their January release, Povera, has never left my ear since and their patience pays off with a spin of “When In Doubt” this week. Swimsuit Addition (love that name) have a new tape/7″ coming out on Tall Pat called Killin’ Time. From the menfolk, I’ve got a brand spanking new Mutts track that features the one and only Archie Powell on some vocals. “Let’s Go” is 3-minute blast of summer grooviness and just what this world needs, right here, right now. I’m digging the Beatle-ish charm of Brent Brown‘s “Above Our Heads” from his For Play, too. Damn! I almost forget to mention the new Way Down Wanderers will be on the show! New Chicago music (and one reissue) on Local Anesthetic, Sunday night at 7:30 here on XRT.
