Simon Ward, Dave Ritter and Izzy Ritchie, the components of the Canadian imports The Strumbellas, stopped by the XRT Media Compound backstage at Lollapalooza to talk about getting big in the states.
“We did small tours, but nothing where we felt like we were catching on yet. It’s very different now.” Having left a ubiquitous impression on Chicago, The Strumbellas have jumped on the opportunity of playing with other talented musicians at historic venues around the city like The Double Door.
It’s not all glitz and glamour, as Dave points out, “That’s the only thing about playing with cool bands, they all look so cool! We look like 40 year old dads.”
Dad jokes aside, Ritter received some heat on Twitter after making pro-Sox/Bule Jays remarks on stage during today’s performance, not knowing that we are a city divided between Sox and Cubs. “See, even stuff like that in America is cool. We don’t have that in Canada…but if your hockey team does something big, we like burn the city down.”
