Without Twitter, Phantogram Wouldn’t Be Where Are Today

Josh Carter and Sarah Barthel from Phantogram stopped the XRT Media Compound to talk with Jason Thomas about growing up in upstate New York, recording at Harmony Lodge and making music in the ever evolving digital realm.

While half of the duo isn’t the most social media savvy, they actually have the internet to thank for their break with recent touring partner Big Boi (of Outkast).

“He shazammed our song from a pop up ad and highlighted it on his website,” Carter recalls. “Sarah went on the Twitter and found it. We just hit it off and started making music together. The vibe and energy between the three of us was so good, we decided to make a band.”

As for keeping up with millennials in the digital sphere, Sarah takes the lead online, noting, “[Josh] doesn’t give a…can we swear here?…a hoot”.

Their forthcoming album, Three will be released in early October.
