Well, if the Major League Baseball offseason is known as ‘hot-stove’, that stove has gone just about supernova now. The Cubs appear to be in the final stages of trading at least one big name for Yankees fireballer closer Aroldis Chapman. The thing is, he’s on the final year of his contract, and so becomes either a rental or a Cubs longer-term signing if they’re able to come to terms on a new deal. And there’s the no small matter of him having served a 30-game suspension this season after allegedly assaulting the mother of his child at their home. Meanwhile, on the South Side, Sox ace Chris Sale took a knife to the team’s throwback unis over the weekend in protest of wearing the uncomfortable jerseys in the stifling heat. Because of that move, the team has suspended him five games. Say what you will about Chicago baseball, but you can never say it’s dull.
