Two lucky XRT listeners got the opportunity of a lifetime at Soldier Field this past Saturday when they sat down with Coldplay frontman Chris Martin. After hearing that her daughter’s first song on the piano was “Clocks”, Martin asked if her family was joining them at the show that evening. While they only had two tickets to the show, Martin surprised them with tickets for the whole family, joking, “I know the drummer, I can get some extra tickets.”
Martin also reflected on his career as a musician, and where it all started. Music has a profound effect on Martin. “Music and songs are my best friend in a way, I just check in with it every day,” he said before adding, “it’s a cathartic diary entry.”
He poked fun at himself and his bandmates when talking about the soundcheck for the show. “What you heard just now was the soundcheck, and that was atrocious!”
Martin went on to discuss what it was like performing at the Super Bowl as well as what he’s passionate about when he steps off the stage.
