Jason Thomas Shares a Few Lollapalooza Picks (Thursday/Friday Edition)

The headliners are obvious. Yes, we’re all going to see LCD Soundsystem on Sunday night. No disrespect to the Ellie Goulding and Die Antwoord fans, but I’m guessing that most folks clicking on this post will be with James and the gang to close out the longest Lollapalooza in history. So, we all know who the headliners are and we can name all of their albums in order, right? Well, most of ’em in the case of RHCP. Seriously, name the pre-Mother’s Milk records without looking them up. See what I’m saying?

The focus here will be pre-5pm bands, so let’s get into it…

Pinegrove – Thursday, 12:15, Petrillo Music Shell

Thursday at 12:15? No respect for a band that’s responsible for one of 2016’s best albums so far? Oh, well. At least they’re at Petrillo.

Yeasayer – Thursday, 3:30, Lakeshore

How about the video they did for “I Am Chemistry”? Good stuff, right? Well, couple that with indie classics like “Madder Red,” and “O.N.E.” and you should have a pretty good set to enjoy on Thursday afternoon. Think about the fact that you should probably be at work and it’ll be even better.

Modern Baseball – Friday, 1:45, Petrillo Music Shell

A Philly band that’s on album #3, Holy Ghost, an album that’s been receiving a decent amount of play on Monday night program THE BIG BEAT. And hey, if you’re dragging ass into the fest on Friday and you miss their early set, you can try to get into see their aftershow at The Empty Bottle on Friday night.

RÜFÜS DU SOL – Friday, 4:00, Pepsi

How is this Australian band live? I have no idea. I was going to put Foals into my final slot here, but they’re pretty well-known and I wanted to stick to acts that our audience might not yet be familiar with. So, yeah, I have no idea if they’re any good live, I just know that I’m a fan of the record (video) below, so don’t let me down, RDS…
