It’s been a pretty tame week here on The Overnite shift at XRT, I have no crazy stories to report, which is probably a good thing. Every now and then a janitor randomly walks by the window and scares the ritz crackers out of me. But that’s all.
But in terms of concerts, the vibe is anything but tame. Last Friday night was the annual XRT Taste of Chicago Concert featuring Shakey Graves and The Decemberists. The Decemberists played The Replacements’ “Can’t Hardly Wait” to commemorate the 25th anniversary of their famous break up at the 1991 Taste of Chicago Concert on the very same stage. The Decemberists played a fantastic cover, and their latest album, What A Terrible World, What A Beautiful World, really fits the mayhem that is our society right now.
This past Monday night I introduced Australian band Oh Pep! at Schubas, as part of the XRT/Billions First Impressions Concert Series. Aussies Olivia Hally and Pepita Emmerichs (O + Pep) communicate to each other and to the audience through sound in the coolest way. I walked away feeling like I had just had a long conversation with them. Check out this one:
“Doctor Doctor” – Oh Pep!
I’m also loving this new Paul Simon song, “Wristband,” from his new album Stranger to Stranger.

Speaking of wristbands, I’ll be giving away pairs of Lollapalooza weekend passes this Thursday night at the Jewel Osco in Evanston, 1128 W. Chicago Ave. We’ll be there from 5-7 pm, courtesy of Topo Chico. Come hang out and enter to win! Everyone knows Jewel cookies are the best!
Blink twice if you’re going to Pitchfork Music Festival this weekend! I knew it. I’ll see you guys there. If you still need tickets, enter this last minute giveaway from XRT while it’s still hot.
Who are you looking forward to seeing? There’s been a lot of hype around Car Seat Headrest and for good reason:
I’m also excited for Twin Peaks, Whitney, Beach House, and of course Sufjan.
All things go!
