Blondie Breaks Through

Disco went from a world wide craze to an incorporated musical flavor very quickly. It still appears with regularity in modern sounds (Broken Bells, Daft Punk, Arcade Fire), but was most interesting in the hybrid forms it created in the late seventies. Blondie was an art pop punky outfit that had lots of critical acclaim but lacked the commercial smash. Here’s a fascinating account of how they climbed on the disco train and rode it all the way to the top of the charts:
