Earlier this month we found out the news that the main force behind M83, Anthony Gonzalez, would be providing the soundtrack for the science fiction film Oblivion. Starring Tom Cruise and Morgan Freeman, Oblivion takes place 60 years after an alien invasion on the planet Earth, and one of the last humans stationed on Earth begins to question his mission and himself as well. You may remember another science fiction film using an electronic rock band for the movie’s soundtrack, like when Daft Punk scored the soundtrack for Tron Legacy. This film is directed by Joseph Kosinski, who also directed Tron Legacy, so I guess you could say he has a pretty cool taste in music. The soundtrack by M83 won’t be out until April 9th, but now you can listen to a new song from the soundtrack.
Titled the same as the movie is, “Oblivion” is a track featuring the vocals of Norwegian singer Susanne Sundfør, and you can listen to it below. Although the album is a soundtrack for a movie, it is the first album released by M83 since the popular Hurry Up We’re Dreaming in 2011. You can hear the soundtrack and see the film when it comes out on April 19th.
