Initially established in 2007 to help celebrate the art of independent music and brick and mortar stores, Record Store Day is shaping for a very exciting 4/20 this year. Not only is Jack White going to be the official ambassador, but there will also be a lot of exciting releases to help promote it. The official list of releases won’t be known to the public until late March, but here are some of the releases we know of so far.
New Record Store Day releases will include Mumford & Sons, winners of the best album for the XRT Listener Poll. They will release “Live At Bullmoose” on CD and vinyl.
With a new album to come out this March, David Bowie will also be participating in the music appreciation day. He is releasing vinyl including the songs, “The Stars (Are Out Tonight)” and “Where Are We Now?” Willie Nelson will release a green vinyl called, “Roll Me Up And Smoke Me When I Die”, which features Snoop Dogg, Jamey Johnson and Kris Kristofferson. Lead singer of Phish, Trey Anastasio, will be releasing a Picture Disc of “Blue Ash & Other Suburbs”.
Fans of the Flaming Lips will be excited to hear they are releasing their experimental album from 1997, Zaireeka, on four LP’s. Other artists to release music on Record Store Day include G. Love and Special Sauce, Grizzly Bear, At The Drive In, and Marco Benevento.
