Every new music festival lineup announcement spawns a new batch of speculations of who will be rocking this year’s Lollapalooza. Taking place on the beaches of Gulf Shores Alabama, the Hangout Music Fest’s first lineup was released today with Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers and Kings of Leon filling two of the three headlining spots, leaving one left to be revealed.
Tom Petty and Co will be bringing with them thirty-five plus years of experience and 12 albums worth of material while fellow southern rockers Kings of Leon are no stranger to headlining festivals as they’ve headlined Lollapalooza, ACL, and UK’s Reading and Leeds Festival amongst other. Both bands are in positions to reveal new material as the last albums from both, Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers’ Mojo and Kings of Leon’s Come Around Sundown, came in 2010. Other Hangout acts include The Shins, Passion Pit, Dirty Projectors, and My Morning Jacket’s Jim James as well as Hangout veterans like Trey Anastasio, The Roots, and The Black Crowes who were all present at the first Hangout in 2010. Expect more names to come before the festival kicks off on May 17th.

As far as Lollapalooza goes, Petty and Co have yet to step foot onstage at Grant Park while past headliners like Red Hot Chili Peppers and Kanye West have made multiple headline appearances, so consider both Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers and Kings Of Leon in contention for a headliner spot at Lolla 2013.
