If the year were 1990 and Dave Grohl was asked to help his pals in Soundgarden with something, it would likely be helping drummer Matt Cameron carry the drum kit from the van into a local tavern. Nowadays, things are a little different.
Grohl, who seems to have a hand in every active rock project in the world, recently approached the band with an idea for a music video for their new song, “By Crooked Steps.” It features Soundgarden as the “Crooked Steps” gang cruising around the tough streets of Los Angeles on vehicles you wouldn’t expect. Seemingly infuriated with the city’s DJ scene, the band takes matters into their own hands. In a twist of fate, the band of Segway-riding thugs are arrested by one of today’s most famous DJs.
“I had an idea,” Grohl said in a press statement. “I got a copy of the record [King Animal] and the third song ‘By Crooked Steps’ was a signature, instantly recognizable Soundgarden song. The rest was history.”
Between the “By Crooked Steps” video and his new Sound City documentary, it seems like Grohl fancies himself quite the director these days.
