Nice to talk with some guys who gave obvious care to every aspect of their first step forward, i.e., California Wives‘ debut, Art History. Whether it was the actual sound of the recording or the structure of the songs, the band gave thought to not only what went in but what they left out. I referred to the result as minimalism but Jayson countered with “subtlety” and, indeed, that’s closer to the mark. Ultimately, it’s a sound that leaves the band with many options on their next direction. All in all an impressive debut from California Wives and you can hear more of last night’s Local Anesthetic at the link below.
