Reporting Lin Brehmer

The 1950 film Harvey, starring James Stewart and Josephine Hull, tells the story of a man whose best friend is an invisible 6′ 3.5″ tall rabbit named Harvey. The most famous line of the movie is when the protagonist, Elwood (Stewart) says:

“Years ago my mother used to say to me, she’d say, ‘In this world, Elwood, you must be’ – she always called me Elwood – ‘In this world, Elwood, you must be oh so smart or oh so pleasant.’ Well, for years I was smart. I recommend pleasant. You may quote me.”

And boy was he quoted. So which is it, oh so smart or oh so pleasant? Lin shares his thoughts.
