For years we’ve been waiting for the work on the Eisenhower, the Congress bridge over the Chicago River, Congress Parkway, and Wacker Drive reconstruction to be completed. The people marking lanes for bikes on Dearborn waited only a few hours longer than that!
The work on the north/south portion of upper and lower Wacker was completed on Friday. During the time of the construction drivers found other ways to get from the southwest corner of the Loop to the northwest corner and one of those ways was to travel northbound on Dearborn. With some of that new Dearborn traffic now returning to Wacker the city lost no time turning their attention to the proposed protected bike lanes on Dearborn. It was literally within hours of the opening of Wacker the lane painters were out. Included is a picture of the new lanes on Dearborn as seen on Saturday looking south from Lake. The western lane of Dearborn will become a two way, two lane protected bike lane soon. Heck, maybe it is already. You can find out more info on the Grid Chicago website.
Roll safe!
