New Eric Clapton Songs To Be Released On ‘Slowhand’ Anniversary Edition

Eric Clapton will be re-releasing his most successful album, 1977’s Slowhand, for its 35th anniversary on December 14, with new material to boot. The new edition will include all nine original tracks and four previously-unheard ones.

The album, Clapton’s fifth solo record and a No. 2 album stateside, includes tracks like “Cocaine” (a JJ Cale cover Clapton made famous), “Wonderful Tonight” and “Lay Down Sally” (a crossover country hit).

“Looking at the Rain” is the first single off the album and is one of the four newbies. It is actually a cover of Gordon Lightfoot‘s song, from his 1972 album Don Quixote. The song has currently hitting radio and can be heard here. The other new songs are: “Alberta,” “Greyhound Bus” and “Stars, Strays and Ashtrays.”

Slowhand will be available in five different formats; however, the vinyl LP and CD versions will not feature the bonus songs.

The two-disc deluxe edition will include the full album (13 tracks in total) and a live version of the album, which was recorded a week before Slowhand was recorded in 1977 at the Olympic Studios in London.

And for those diehard Clapton fans, the boxset edition encompasses everything from the deluxe edition, a fourth disc with five live songs from the “Live at Hammersmith Odeon” concert, an audio-only DVD of the original album, and a vinyl copy. A book revealing behind-the-scenes information and tour programs will also be included.
