If you love Chicago, you’ve got to read Neil Steinberg’s new book You Were Never In Chicago. It’s not a guide book. You won’t find a listing of restaurants. It’s not the history of our great city. It’s one man’s perception of this complex, compelling and confounding community we call sweet home Chicago. Neil is a long time columnist for the Chicago Sun Times. He has the skill and curiosity of a great writer. He’s talked to some people. He’s seen some things. He’s got some stories and observations to share.
Neil and I were both born and raised in towns and Ohio, both came to the Chicago area to study at suburban schools. Neil at Northwestern. I went to Elmhurst. We were both a bit terrified and attracted to this big city. And like all of you that moved to this city and now would never consider moving away, we fell madly in love with this place and these people.
We are all different. We all see one city and see it in different ways. Spend some time seeing Chicago through Neil’s eyes. It’s a work in progress. This book is a good place to start. I just had a half hour chat with Neil about Chicago and his new book. You can hear it 6:00 this Saturday morning, November 17th. We’ll post it on line next week. I love hearing Neil’s stories and perceptions of this city. I would love to hear yours. You know how to respond.
