Pegi Young — wife of Neil Young, and co-founder of The Bridge School — has a a lot going on lately. She’s still promoting her third solo album, Bracing For Impact, she’s about to play a very high profile show at this year’s Farm Aid next weekend, and this year’s Bridge School Benefit concert was just announced.
It’s the latter project that takes up much of her time and energy. The Bridge School Benefit Concert is an annual event: an all-acoustic concert headlined by Neil Young, it always attracts a wide variety of artists. This year’s lineup includes Guns ‘N Roses, Jack White and Steve Martin. In the past, artists as diverse as Metallica, Tony Bennett, Norah Jones and The Red Hot Chili Peppers have performed at the concert. But what is The Bridge School?
Pegi co-founded the school, located in Hillsborough, California, with Jim Forderer, also a parent of a disabled child, in 1985 because they were unsatisfied with the schools that were available to their children. Along with Dr.Marilyn Buzolich, a speech and language pathologist, they created the Bridge School, whose mission is working with children with complex communication needs. But what was started as a way to help local children has had a much bigger impact.
This year’s Bridge School Benefit takes place October 20 and 21 at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California. For more information on the Bridge School itself, go to its website.
