A female listener named Lynn asks Lin, “When did it become necessary for Rock and Roll to be so neatly categorized?” Lin takes this opportunity to divulge in to a history of Rock and Roll.
Lin begins with the basics like folk music and old time rock, and guides us along a timeline of the past half century or so to show how the genres kept dividing themselves further into subcategories. He touches on categories such as progressive rock, country rock, folk rock, soft rock, blues rock, hard rock and answers why we’ve felt the need to organize and label our rock like it’s moving boxes. It’s all rock and roll, right?
