Led by banjoist Tom McGettrick, I’ve referred to Mar Caribe as “gypsy surf” but that’s really as inaccurate as it is silly sounding. There’s mariachi, sci-fi/horror, country, spaghetti western, trad jazz and flat-picking grooves galore. Plus songtitle of the year in “Piranha’s Got Me Willie”. Check out a track from Mar Caribe and their disc The Law on this week’s Anesthetic and see them live at the Hideout on August 30.
The Sons Of The Never Wrong have album eight coming out in September and will be making their Anesthetic debut NEXT Sunday, August 26 at 7:30pm. King Fisher King has got some fine tunes on it. I mean really stellar stuff from all three of the Sons. I’ll give you a tease on this week’s show. See Sons of the Never Wrong at the Old Town on September 8 for the release show of King Fisher King. What else? Plenty! So, join me for new Chicago music on this week’s Local Anesthetic, Sunday night at 7:30 here on XRT.
