If my Friday goes according to some perfectly conceived plan, I will go home take a quick nap, come back downtown, find parking and hit Lollapalooza like the mad dogs and Englishmen in the midday sun.
Here’s my personal schedule if you’re dying to buy me a beer. And why wouldn’t you?
30p Playstation- Michael Kiwanuka. You may have heard him perform live on Terri’s show yesterday. A charmer with a Martin D-28 acoustic, he evokes classic soul with an eye to the future.
15p Google Play-The War on Drugs. Versatility and vision. The best thing to come out of Philly since cheese steak.
00pm PlayStation- Sharon Van Etten. I’ve never seen the highly touted atmospheric folk rocker and I want to.
15pm Red Bull Soundstage-The Afghan Whigs. Greg Dulli maintains a strange power over some of his female fans. Maybe he can teach us something. Not to be missed.
15pm Sony-The Head and the Heart. Their disturbing album cover notwithstanding, The Head and The Heart had an XRT breakout hit a couple of years ago.
00pm Bud Light-Passion Pit. First time I saw them was a show at The Congress Theater. It was one of the best times ever. There will be people jumping up and down through the entire set. I guarantee it.
15pm I would like to see Dawes, but I might have to head to the Lolla Lounge for a massage. And some strong drinks for my final act. I’ll deserve one. Or two.
05pm. Bud Light-Black Sabbath. Dude. Their first album came out when at the age of 16, I noticed hormones leaking out of my ears. I never had a chance. Need to find my way back to the garden. Of eden. After the fall.
15pm. Off to a fine dining destination that I can’t mention because I don’t want you taking my reservation. I’ll give you a hint. It has a Frenchy name.
