WXRT’s Marty Lennartz says his most irrational act turned out to be his best move. He quit his job in the car rental business to produce Terri Hemmert’s morning show for 25 bucks per week. That gig turned into a full-time air shift in 1986 when Marty became the overnight host and kept XRT’s midnight lamp burning for the next 20 years.
In 2008, Marty took over a new position, Creative Assistant to Programming, assisting in the day to day programming and helming a variety of special creative projects, including backstage festival broadcasts from Bonnaroo, Pitchfork, and Lollapalooza.
Marty also began hosting XRT’s popular Live From Studio X Performance Series.
In 2015, Marty moved back into the studio as XRT’s Afternoon Host, where you can currently hear him from 1-4 PM Monday through Friday.
During his stint as Morning Show Producer, Marty “met” The Regular Guy and invited him to review movies on XRT. The Guy has been offering his unique Chicago take on Hollywood twice a week on XRT since 1984 making him one of, if not the longest tenured film reviewer on the radio. Just ask him. He’ll tell you.
Marty is a gradute of Columbia College, resides in Chicago’s Wicker park neighborhood and will be celebrating The Cubs World Series Championship everyday for the rest of his life.
