Another Phantastic Phish show went down this past Saturday night 6/30/2012 at Alpine Valley in Wisconsin. Channeling the amazing Velvet Underground with covers from the Loaded album in the past four shows including Lonesome Cowboy Bill, Sweet Jane, Cool it Down and Rock and Roll, Phish is on fire this summer tour season. I was sad to have missed Phish play Sweet Jane by the Velvet Underground on 6/29 for the first time since the late 1990s…but the show on Saturday night was far from disappointing. AC/DC Bag, The Moma Dance and Runaway Jim at the start of the first set got the entire crowd jumping on their feet and the energy kept rolling along with Kill Devil Falls, The Oh Kee Pa Ceremony and Suzy! Suzy! Suzy! Suzy Greenberg to close out the first set.
Trey and company kicked off the second set with Backwards Down the Number Line and then featured a couple of phabulous XRT favorites including Golden Age by TV on the Radio (awesome!) and Quinn The Eskimo by Bob Dylan. Phish also played a new song, “Steam” which is expected to be on their forthcoming album sometime this year. Phans were not let down by Wilson, Harry Hood and Character Zero. Good Times Bad Times ended the show on a happy, energetic note (which was much needed for that hike back up the hill at Alpine).
So don’t be the only one left on the lot…and make sure you catch the next Phish show in your neighborhood…and of course all of WXRT concerts this summer!
