Irish musician and actor, Glen Hansard is famously a member of the Swell Season and the Frames. His work in the 2006 film Once brought his talent to the masses.

In town for a sold out XRT show at the Vic, Glen spoke with Terri to discuss the romanticism and danger of the street music lifestyle, as well as the pride and joy of having your art experienced on a grand scale. “Fame is a byproduct of success. Success is you doing your thing right.”

Upon hearing that the rights to Once had been sold for a musical adaptation, Hansard said, “That was the moment where I was truly horrified.” Hansard was expecting the musical to miss the mark, but found his work being treated with respect.

Hansard also discussed the path from the Frames, to the Swell Season, and making a solo record. “It just sort of seemed like a natural progression…you put your name on it and you have to stand up and own it in a different way.”
