Fleetwoood Mac is one of the greatest bands ever. You can’t make me think otherwise. My mind is totally set on that fact. I must not be the only person thinking it either because the Starbucks label Hear Music/Concord is releasing a tribute album titled “Just Tell Me That You Want Me” that will effectively cover their remarkable discography. These legends will be covered by the likes of MGMT, Best Coast, Washed Out, St. Vincent, The Kills, Lykke Li, and The New Pornographers, just to name a few. There are 17 tracks on the album including favorites like “Landslide”, “Rhiannon”, and “Gypsy”. Unfortunately, the album won’t be released until August 14th but Pitchfork has an exclusive sneak peek posted on their website of The New Pornographers take on “Think About Me”.

The New Pornographers are a well-known indie rock band hailing from Canada and are frequently played here on WXRT. They’ve got a cool sound to them that many listeners, including myself, have enjoyed as they release hit album after hit album. They bring this sound to their cover of “Think About Me”. The band captures the magic of the original version but manages to add their own twist to the song without overpowering it. They pick up the pace of the track just a little bit which makes the tune a little more bouncy and updated. I myself, really enjoy their take on the harmonies throughout the song and the electronic sound effects they’ve added into it. They definitely made it their own song while respecting Fleetwood Mac’s original which makes for an incredibly enjoyable tune.

If this track is any indication of what’s to come, I’m incredibly excited. The variety of musicians that are participating in the tribute should make for some pretty interesting renditions of these classic tunes. If you were a fan of last year’s tribute to Buddy Holly, “Rave On”, this should be right up your alley since the same producers created this tribute album. However, I honestly believe any fan of Fleetwood Mac can appreciate this record and the fact that their music is being ushered into a new generation!
