High Time To Decriminalize Pot In Chicago?

Mayor Emanuel (aka The Dude to XRT listeners) wants to make it less of a crime if you’re caught carrying a joint or eleven. The Sun-Times reports the mayor is backing a proposal to ticket anyone carrying 15 grams or less, rather than having police bust them with potential jail time.

Right now in Chicago, getting busted for pot means a misdemeanor charge, and the potential penalty of sitting in a jail cell for up to six months and forking over $1,500. Most of those cases end up being dropped. But if the City Council agrees, people who are carrying 15 or less grams of pot will just be ticketed and fined between $100 and $500.

The mayor and other supporters say it’ll give police more time to deal with street crime. Others complain it sends the wrong message about drugs.

There was a shirt I seen recently in Bangkok, Thailand that sums it all up; Alcohol was made by man, Pot was made by God, Which do you trust?”. I don’t smoke Pot, but others should be free to do what they like.

For Gods sake, legalize pot already! It amazes me how it is ok to spend billions and billions of dollars on prescription drugs that can cause suicidal thoughts, countless side effects and have actually been responsible for too many overdoses. I have never heard of anyone overdosing, causing deadly accidents, or acting utterly idiotic from smoking Pot. I know an 85 year old man who smoked a joint for the first time in his life – it helped manage his awful back pain and he wishes he would have done it a long time ago!

For those who say it sends the wrong message – what is the message we’re sending to our children with all these idiotic drug commercials on TV? There is supposedly a pill to cure every little thing. Go to the doctor and you come home with at a minimum of 4 prescriptions! Stop the madness and stop making these drug companies so rich! WAKE UP

Don’t be fooled people! all this is, is another revenue generating scheme. This will get money flowing into the REAL CROOKS hands faster, by avoiding tying up theses cases in court.
