The song “Hold On” from the fabulous debut album by the Alabama Shakes includes a name drop from the singer Brittany Howard. Here’s a few other tunes with personal references.
- “Creeque Alley” by the Mamas and the Papas. Mama Cass gets the worst of this origin story.
- “Tighten Up” by Archie Bell and the Drells. A band that now needs no introduction.
- “Gotta Serve Somebody” by Bob Dylan. Even though he says you could call him Bobby or Zimmy in the song, Mr. Dylan is preferable .
- “Turtle Blues” by Janis Joplin. “I’m gonna take good care of Janis.” (Wish she did.)
- “Ballroom Blitz” by The Sweet. Everybody but the singer gets named.
