In M83‘s followup to Midnight City, directors Fleur & Manu keep tabs on a group of telekinetic children as they run from an organization, likely the government, aiming is to capture them. In “Reunion,” we watch as one of the little girls, held captive, is used in an attempt to find and destroy her friends.
M83 frontman Anthony Gonzales is keen to use children in both his music and videos as a way to describe the innocence of youth. In a recent interview with L.A. Station KROQ, Gonzalez divulges that Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming is an homage to his childhood and his teenage years.
“I feel like I had the best childhood ever thanks to my parents and this album is for them,” he said. “And my brother was like my best friend as well, and for me, the only way I found to reconnect with my past is to write about this period of my life and to talk about it in my music,” he explains. “And music is my only way to reconnect with my past. I just had the best time as a kid and I just wanted to write about this.”
M83 is currently on tour in Europe through mid-June, returning to the U.S. in August.
