Prius Route to Rock, Vol. 9: Do Division, Farmers Markets, Craig Finn
This upcoming weekend is a big one in Chicago. Our first post-Memorial Day weekend means we now get to do two of our favorite things… Drink beer outside, in the middle of the street while we listen to some high quality tunes, and we also have a helluva lot of real, honest, actual food available to us in countless neighborhoods around town and the suburbs as well. I’m talking about street fests and farmers markets. The season is upon us.
Chicago Farmers Markets, Chicago, everywhere, EVERY SINGLE DAY thru Sept./Oct.
What’s that? You want to rage against the food machine? You don’t want genetically modified vegetables or meat that’s been pumped full of bull$#!%? You’ve had it with big agribusiness? Here ya go, buddy… Chicago’s got farmers markets up the yazoo, every day of the week, all over town. Here they are listed by day of the week, and here they are listed by neighborhood. The seasonality chart kicks ass too. See ya @ Logan Square or Wicker Park.
Do Division Street Fest & Sidewalk Sale, Division St. between Damen and Leavitt (tunes & fest), and between Ashland & Leavitt (sidewalk sale), Friday-Sunday, June 1-3
Like I was saying before, one of our favorite activities here in town. Having a cold beer or two on a warm day while some amazing bands play for us in the middle of the street. Love those things… The good folks from Empty Bottle Presents put together the DD lineup and they always do a wonderful job. This year you can enjoy The Black Belles, JC Brooks & The Uptown Sound, Le Butcherettes, Peanut Butter Wolf, and one of my favs below, The Antlers, along with many, many more.
Craig Finn @ The Empty Bottle, Saturday, June 2
You know Craig from The Hold Steady and you’ve heard his solo work on XRT in the past. He’s playing at Do Division on Saturday afternoon at 5:30 on the Damen stage, but he’s also got a proper show later that evening at the one and only Empty Bottle. Show’s at 10:00 and you can get tickets here.
