[photogallerylink id=126278 align=left]While XRT celebrates the 1970s, Regular Guy discusses the significance of Hollywood anti-establishment films, actor Elliot Gould, and the 1970 film version M*A*S*H. The same year that M*A*S*H was released TIME magazine put Gould on the cover, calling him “a star for an uptight age.” Gould played Captain “John Trapper.” Donald Sutherland also held a starring role as Captain “Hawkeye.”
The film’s black humor, irreverence, and “holding nothing sacred” became a trend in 1970s movie making, but began with director Robert Altman’s 1970 movie M*A*S*H. Another one of Altman’s innovations was the use of overlapping dialogue. Aside from the wartime events in the film, there was also a football game featuring a cameo appearance by Chicago Bears quarterback Jack Concannon.
