Did you know the second most popular movie in theaters this weekend features The Killers covering a popular song from the 70′s? It’s likely you had no idea because you were busy watching The Avengers, which broke every box office record in the history of box office records.

Taking in a haul of $28 million, the Tim Burton/Johnny Depp horror comedy collaboration did well this weekend, but nowhere near where it needed to be to dethrone the latest Marvel superhero blockbuster. With that said, Dark Shadows did a respectable job at the box office.

Based on vampires, werewolves, zombies, man-made monsters, witches, warlocks and time travel, Dark Shadows was considered a hit when it aired as a ground-breaking daytime soap opera in the late 1960′s.

At the end of the Tim Burton film, Killers fans will hear an uncanny similarity to the original recording of the Raspberries’ 1972 Hit “Go All The Way.” Back in ’72, the single was a top 5 billboard hit but got little revival back in 2000 when Cameron Crowe’s featured it in his film Almost Famous.
