A quick taste of the new Chicago music you can expect to hear on this week’s Local Anesthetic, Sunday night at 7:30 here on XRT. As has been customary the last couple of Smoking Popes‘ releases, I’ll have the pleasure of presenting the broadcast premier of a new track on Local Anesthetic. “Hey Renee” is one of two new tunes on the Popes’ new Complete Control Sessions EP, an in-studio live set that you’re gonna dig.
Plus, this week, the debut of Wooden Rings which sounds like nothing I’ve heard out of Chicago in a while, if ever. Vocalist/guitarist/songwriter Ramah Jihan Malebranche is coming out of a Fairport Convention/Renaissance/acoustic Yes vibe that would sound annoyingly precious in lesser hands. Sure, there are moments where I fully expect to see little people dancing around a miniature Stonehenge but it’s too deep for that. Heartfelt and heart breaking.
I’ll have more new Chicago music for you, too. Tune in, Sunday night, 7:30, here on XRT.
