The Boxer Rebellion
What to do this weekend? It never takes too long at all to come up with a couple of solid picks and this weekend is no exception. I’m pretty excited for M83 at The Riviera on Friday night but that show’s sold out and there’s really no point in giving you the heads up on a show that you probably can’t attend, so we’ll look elsewhere. Lincoln Hall produces as always and I also need to mention one of my favorite bars/nightclubs in my old neighborhood of Uptown. Not just my favorite, either. I’m pretty sure a fair number of folks would have The Green Mill on their top 5 list…
-The Boxer Rebellion @ Lincoln Hall, Friday, May 4
TBR is a band that started out in London but they feature an Aussie and a Yank and they’ve been at it for around 10 years now. A good friend of mine threw one of their tracks on a mix she made for me sometime around ’06 and they’ve been on my radar ever since. Just a solid rock band and the visual evidence is below. Tix can be had here.
-Kimberly Gordon Organ Trio @ The Green Mill, Sunday, May 6
I know I wrote “Sunday, May 6,” but they play every Sunday at The Mill. Chris Foreman plays the B3 as well as anyone and this is one of his three weekly appearances at the legendary Uptown nightclub. TimeOut Chicago gave Chris a really nice writeup recently and if you’ve never taken in one of his performances at one of the coolest spots in all of Chicago, you really need to change that. The Organ Trio plays from 11pm to 2am on Sunday nights. Oh, and it’s only $4.
