Neil Young and Crazy Horse have released a video for “Oh Susannah,” the first track from their upcoming album Americana. The video features early American archival footage that continues the theme of frontier life exhibited by the album art.
Americana, the first Neil Young & Crazy Horse album in nearly nine years, is scheduled for June 5th release and a North American Tour will follow to promote it. According to Young’s site, “Americana is collection of classic, American folk songs. In their day, some of these may have been referred to as “protest songs”, “murder ballads”, or campfire-type songs passed down with universal, relatable tales for everyman.”
A small amount of dates also appear on Young’s site, with only August 10-12 having a location set – The Outside Lands Festival at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. Metallica, Jack
White, Foo Fighters, and Stevie Wonder have also received top billing at the festival.
Young performed the track during the Bridge School Benefit in 2011 along with Dave Matthews. Other artists to record a version of the popular song, originally penned by Stephen Foster in 1848, include The Byrds on the second album Turn! Turn! Turn! in 1965, and James Taylor also on his second album, Sweet Baby James in 1970.
