Depeche Mode is one of the most oft-mentioned influences on many of our modern rock artists. Both Gotye and Jonathan Davis from Korn mentioned Depeche Mode as influences. And while Martin Gore has been busy with his VCMG project with Erasure’s Vince Clarke and Dave Gahan did some vocals for the Soulsavers, fans have waited not-so-patiently for some new Depeche Mode.
Gahan said in a recent interview that new material could be out soon and that the band are already planning to tour next year.
“We’ve probably got 20 songs demoed,” Gahan said in an interview, “Some of the songs are in really good shape, some need some work, but we’re definitely on track.”
Gahan agreed with a timeline that Gore gave to KROQ/Los Angeles earlier this year. “We have a deadline of the end of November, and there’s no reason we why we won’t meet that at the rate we’re going,” explained Gahan. “There are already plans in place to be touring next year.”
Gore said in an interview that doing his side project with Vince Clarke helped reinvigorate Depeche Mode’s new sound.
“The good thing about doing this side project was it was really fun and it also kept me away from doing what I normally do for quite a period of time,” explained Gore. “So when I went back to writing normal songs, I went back with more energy and more enthusiasm and creativity.”
