Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger, Elton John and many more British rockers have had the esteemed honor of being knighted, and now Bob Dylan is getting in on the action – sort of. Fifty years after the release of his debut, the folk-rock pioneer will receive a Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor award by the United States, according to an official press release from the White House.

The White House’s release deemed Dylan “one of the most influential American musicians of the 20th century” and praised his “considerable influence on the civil rights movement of the 1960s.”

Not just anybody attains this honor, which is “presented to individuals who have made especially meritorious contributions to the security or national interests of the United States, to world peace, or to cultural or other significant public or private endeavors,” the White House boasts. Dylan is in good company, with astronaut John Glenn, novelist Toni Morrison, former Secretary of state Madeleine Albright and nine more receiving Presidential Medals of Freedom alongside him. The awards will be presented later this spring at the White House.

Dylan was awarded the National Medal of Arts in 2009, and while not a presidential salute, he’s also the recipient of 11 Grammys, including a Lifetime Achievement Award.
